Unit 1.3 – Essential Financial Vocabulary for Meetings
Hello again, and welcome to Lesson 1.3 – Essential Financial Vocabulary for Meetings.
Здравейте отново, и добре дошли в урок 1.3 – Основна финансова лексика за срещи.
Today, we will learn new vocabulary through a short story about a real finance meeting. You will read and or listen to it first, then we will break it down together.
You could either read the text by yourself from the slide or the transcript below the video, or listen to me reading it. If you choose to read it on your own, you can pause the video right now and skip a few seconds. Tip: Listen carefully while I am reading. Notice how each term is used in context. Слушайте внимателно, докато чета. Обърнете внимание как се използват термините в контекст. I will start reading now:
Last Monday, the finance team met to review the company’s quarterly results. Emma, the chief accountant, started the meeting: “Our financial performance improved by 10% compared to last quarter, thanks to stronger online sales. The main revenue stream is our e-commerce platform, which continues to grow steadily.”
She continued: “However, our cost structure needs attention. Most costs are fixed, but operating expenses for logistics increased. We must analyse them carefully to protect our profit margin, which is currently 12%.”
James, the financial controller, added: “The budget forecast for the next quarter predicts a 5% increase in revenue. Cash flow remains healthy, but we should monitor potential problems closely.”
By the end of the meeting, the team had a clear overview of revenue streams, expenses, and profitability, and they agreed on action steps to optimise financial performance.

Now, let’s check if you have been listening carefully. We will do a reading comprehension exercise with 5 questions based on the text. I will read each question and I will give you a couple of seconds to think about it. You could pause after each question if you need more time. Then, I will reveal the correct answer. Tip: Answer in full sentences and use vocabulary naturally, referencing the story.

Keep practicing the new knowledge and I will see you in the next video!
